On the cross

That body, disfigured beyond recognition as human,
the drops of blood flowing from the pierced hands, feet, and side,
and the torn flesh visible through the open wounds—
all these tell us this: *He loved me to this extent.*

He valued my life that much.

Let us sit close to the Crucified One,
who loves us with such immeasurable depth,
and meditate on that infinite love hanging upon the nails.

Jesus,
let Your holy wounds be imprinted on my heart, never to fade.
